Authorities in the district of Chiúre in Cabo Delgado are urging residents returning to their areas of origin after terrorist attacks to speedily return to agricultural activity in order to rebuild their lives.
In the spotlight are the residents of the administrative posts of Chiúre-Velho, Mazeze and Ocua, where terrorist incursions were recorded at the end of February.
Chiúre Administrator Oliveira Amino told Radio Mozambique in Pemba that it was essential for displaced families to return to their areas of origin and engage in productive activities to combat food insecurity.
Amimo said the main challenge at the moment was to get state institutions functioning again at the Mazeze administrative headquarters, where some infrastructure was destroyed by the terrorists.
“It is vital for those with ‘machambas’ to start looking after their production fields again. We are currently verifying that these returnees are adapting smoothly,” he said.
