Diagnosed cases of hemorrhagic conjunctivitis in Mozambique this Thursday (29-02) exceeded 2,000, with the identification of new patients in the city of Nampula, Nacala-Porto, Angoche, city of Maputo and city of Matola, in addition to the outbreak of new outbreaks in the district of Moma and Ilha de Moçambique municipality.
A further 384 Mozambicans were infected by the adenovirus that causes hemorrhagic conjunctivitis, bringing the total number of patients diagnosed since the outbreaks began on 10 February to 2,379.
Nampula province continues to be the epicentre of the disease; 235 patients were identified in the city of Nampula, ten in the district of Angoche, 18 in the city of Nacala-Porto and, after two new outbreaks broke out, 73 patients were diagnosed in the district of Moma and two on Ilha de Moçambique.
In the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health, which reassures the public by saying that “there have been no deaths or hospitalizations due to this disease, and most cases will progress to cure without any sequelae”, identified nine more patients in the city of Pemba, 15 in the city of Matola and another 22 in the city of Maputo.
