Mozambique’s National Immigration Service (SENAMI) says it has rejected visa requests on arrival at Maputo International Airport from 95 foreigners after they failed to clarify their presence in the country.SENAMI spokesperson Cira Fernandes told a media briefing that 52 foreign nationals arrived on Tuesday and the other 43 on Wednesday through the Maputo International airport.
On 28 November, the SENAMI questioned 43 mostly Bangladeshi citizens, 17, 11 Ethiopians, 10 Somalis and six Pakistanis.
Fernandes said on Wednesday the foreign nationals were refused to entry to Mozambique over the last two days over lack of clarity of the reason they were in the country.
The official said that the citizens concerned will be further assessed in accordance with immigration regulations and will be immediately repatriated to their countries of origin.
“The company that brought them will have to take them back to their homelands,” she said.

SENAMI has undertaken to intensify enforcement measures to counter attempts at illegal immigration.
“We are strengthening enforcement measures so that we can strictly control the illegal entry of foreigners in the country, especially these days when we approach the Christmas festive season where there is a greater tendency for entries” the SENAM official said.
She said her department is working in coordination at the borders with other agencies such as the Mozambican police and diplomatic representatives from several countries with greater migratory flow to eliminate the situation of illegal migration.
Mozambique provides an easy entry point for illegal immigrants to neighbouring South Africa, Africa’s richest economy.
Foreign nationals are mainly attracted to Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province, situated 1,663km north of Maputo, which boasts of minerals such as gold, grenadines, aquamarines, tourmalines, blue topaz and green tourmalines, an incentive for migrants.
