National Roads Administration (ANE) is demolishing buildings located in the reserve areas of National Highway Number 1 (N1) in the city of Xai-Xai and in Limpopo and Chongoene districts, on the grounds that they present a danger to motorists and the general public.
These are commercial establishments, service providers and private residences built in spaces unsuitable for that purpose, which could compromise future highway widening projects.
In this context, the ANE ordered the demolition of a project in the city of Xai-Xai, built close to the beach crossing and within 30 metres of the N1. The decision was also influenced by the fact that the project was built in an area that also serves as a rainwater retention basin.
According to the ANE delegate in Gaza province, Jeremias Mazoio, these illegal constructions would make road rehabilitation and expansion works more expensive, taking into account the need to compensate the owners of the properties.
