Minister of National Defence Cristóvão Chume says the narrative about terrorism in Cabo Delgado needs to change in order to attract greater investment, insisting that the situation in the north of the country is “stable” and that the territory is a viable destination for investment.
“Our narrative should not be to promote the idea that terrorism is growing in Mozambique, because that’s not true. Four or five years ago, we had Mocimboa da Praia occupied, some administrative areas occupied by terrorism, but today we don’t have any place where we can say that terrorists are governing there,” the minister argued, speaking to the press on the sidelines of the 2nd ordinary session of the Assembly of the Republic.
The Minister of National Defence asserted that the situation in Cabo Delgado is stable and viable for investment. “We will continue working to ensure it remains viable,” Chume assured, adding that it was necessary to stress a positive narrative that would attract more investment to the country.
