The Mozambican government yesterday decreed two days of national mourning following the death of Mário Machungo, Prime Minister of the country between 1986 and 1994, to be observed on 23 and 24 February.
Mário Machungo will have a state funeral, Council of Ministers spokesman Filimão Swazi told a press conference in Maputo.
The former statesman died in Lisbon on Monday after a long illness.
Among his other functions, Machungo was chairman of the board of directors of Millennium bim, one of the largest financial institutions in Mozambique, from its foundation in 1995 until 2014.
