The president of the South Korean construction company and multinational Daewoo, Won- Ju Jung, says he is interested in participating in the construction of projects located in Area 4, in the Rovuma basin, in the province of Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique.
The interest was expressed in Maputo yesterday (18-06) in a brief contact with the press after a meeting with President Daniel Chapo. Jung recognized the energy and economic potential of the projects underway in Area 4, for Mozambique. “We are carrying out the construction of LNG in Area 1, and we want to participate in the construction of LNG in Area 4,” he said. “We are designing high-value projects that can help Mozambique,” Won-Ju Jung added, stressing that, in order to add value to the LNG projects, Daewoo has a plan to develop industries based on natural gas.
Among these, he highlighted the fertilizer and electric power industries as areas that Daewoo could develop in Mozambique. Jun said Daewoo could also build cities and a huge diversified and multidimensional tourism infrastructure in the country.
In another development, on separate occasions, Chapo received in audience the CEO of the South African ecotourism company Singita, Luke Bailes, who revealed ambitious plans for the tourism sector in the country, with a focus on the Bazaruto archipelago in Vilankulo district, southern Inhambane. “We met with the president to discuss some tourism initiatives. We are looking to build two, maybe three, hotels or lodges in Vilankulo, in the Bazaruto archipelago. And we had a very good discussion with His Excellency about what we want to do,” he said.
According to Bailes, Chapo supported the initiative. Singita is an internationally renowned eco-luxury tourism company with operations in several African countries, combining high-quality safaris with environmental conservation and the development of local communities, promoting a sustainable and inclusive business model.
