The audit of support for victims of cyclones Idai and Kenneth in Mozambique is being analysed by cooperation partners prior to being submitted to the Council of Ministers, the director of the Post-Cyclones Reconstruction Office told Lusa on Friday
“The audit is ready and was distributed by the cooperation partners for evaluation,” Francisco Pereira told Lusa.
National and international entities that channelled support to the victims of the cyclones would analyse the data to establish the trustworthiness of the results, Pereira said. The documents would then be submitted to the Council of Ministers for consideration and approval before being made public
Pereira did not advance dates for the publication of the audit.
Cyclone Idai struck the centre of Mozambique in March last year, caused 603 deaths and severely damaging Beira, one of Mozambique’s main cities. Cyclone Kenneth hit Cabo Delgado and Nampula in April 2019, killing 45 people.
Following the two natural disasters, the Mozambican government held an international donor conference between May 31 and June 1, 2019, to mobilise US$3.2 billion (€2.95 billion) for reconstruction.
The executive received pledges of aid in the amount of US$1.4 billion (€1.2 billion), of which Minister of Public Works and Housing João Machatine in May this year said that disbursement agreements worth US$706.5 million (€651.4 million) had already been signed.
