The government of Sofala in central Mozambique has appealed to people living in Muanza, Cheringoma, Búzi, Dondo and Beira districts to stay at home from 11:00 a.m. today, as Tropical Cyclone Idai approaches.
Meeting yesterday to assess the impact of the cyclone, the Sofala government ruled that there would be no school this Thursday, and that students should remain at home or in a place of safety.
The National Meteorological Institute (INAM) warns that tropical cyclone IDAI is moving towards the coast of Sofala and could make landfall on Friday before moving through to the districts of Dondo, Muanza or Cheringoma.

INAM is also forecasting continuing moderate to strong rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and winds for the northern provinces of Niassa and Cabo Delgado, and recommends taking the usual precautionary measures associated with rain, thunderstorms and high winds.
