The number of deaths caused by cyclone Eloise between Saturday and Sunday in Mozambique has risen to six, the Mozambican authorities said.
Five deaths were recorded in Sofala province and one in Zambézia, in addition to 12 person were injured, among 176,000 people affected, either by the destruction caused by the storm, with strong wind and rain or by flooding.
Some 5,000 homes, mostly of poor construction, were damaged.
In terms of public services, there are 26 damaged health centres, 161 classrooms with damage, 37 sections of damaged roads, and 129 collapsed power posts.
More than 6,000 students in 7th, 10th and 12th grades cannot take exams because of the destruction of classrooms in Zambezia province.
The country is in the middle of the rainy and cyclone season, which occurs between October and April, with winds from the Indian Ocean and floods originating in the watersheds of southern Africa.
