In order to reduce contraband traffic at the Ressano Garcia border, the Mozambique Tax Authority’s Maputo Province Delegation launched, at the beginning of June, an operation improving control systems at the border in Moamba district, Maputo province.
In addition to enhanced awareness of the steps required in the customs clearance process, the number of personnel monitoring and inspecting goods at the only point of entry and exit currently in use, commonly known as the ‘bypass’, has been increased. This will permit the thorough verification and monitoring of vehicles right up to the commercial border at Km 4.
In response to the new trend of smugglers on the Namaacha border, allegedly the closest point where it is possible to escape the attention of the Customs at Ressano Garcia, the provincial delegation of Maputo has extended its line of action, redoubling its presence and ‘modus operandi’ on the border between Mozambique and the Republic of Eswatini.
The actions of control and inspection at all borders being routine and permanent, the
Tax Authority calls on all importers and other citizens to adhere strictly to the procedures to be observed when importing/exporting, and in all customs clearance processes, on pain of punitive measures applied against the vehicle used and the goods and persons involved.
