More than 108 illegally imported vehicles were seized by the country’s customs authorities between 1 January and 31 May this year.
In the same period, Mozambican Customs made 144 seizures of alcoholic beverages and other miscellaneous goods.
Customs spokesman Fernando Tinga points said the contraband represented a loss of 50 million meticais in taxes payable for the products in question to enter the country legitimately.
Addressing a press conference in Maputo today, Tinga said that alcoholic beverages constitute most of the smuggled goods seized.
