The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) is vetting the projects to be presented and “sold” in business-to-business (B2B) meetings and ‘business rooms’ during the XVII Annual Conference of the Private Sector (CASP).
This edition of CASP is scheduled for the 23rd, 24th and 25th of March. The portfolio of projects, estimated at US$990 million in value, covers the areas of agribusiness, industry, tourism, infrastructure and energy.
The B2B, ‘business rooms ‘meetings are “contact exchanges” between project originators and large development finance institutions, investment funds, venture capital, banks, and other investors with a specific interest in Mozambique.
So far, ten international development finance institutions have joined CASP, notably the African Development Bank, World Bank, AFREXIMBANK, Trade Development Bank and PROPARCO. These institutions will browse and evaluate projects presented by companies, via the CTA.
Under the motto, “Reforming the Business Environment for Economic Recovery”, this 17th CASP edition will comprise three main components: a public-private dialogue, the Mozambique Investment Summit, and the Market Place.
One of the main milestones of this edition will be based on the identification of concrete steps to boost economic recovery after the successive shocks suffered since 2016 and exacerbated by the Covid-19 crisis, which led to the country registering a negative growth rate of 1.28% in 2020, its first economic recession since 1992.
At the Public-Private Dialogue Forum, topics related to the investment climate in Mozambique will be discussed, and the CTA will propose to the government an economic recovery plan aimed at inducing the recovery of the economy and the business fabric from the successive shocks is has suffered.
The event should have taken place in November 2021, but this did not happen due to restrictions imposed by Covid-19.
The government and CTA have developed the Public-Private Dialogue (DPP) as a joint platform which identifies constraints and barriers to the business environment and seeks sustainable solutions for their removal, with a view to continuous improvement of investments and the business environment in the country.
Led by the President of the Republic, CASP is the highest expression of this dialogue, being an event whose purpose is to take stock of the activities carried out during the year, with a special focus on the implementation of agreed reforms, and to reflect on other development challenges in the private sector and business environment.
