An average of three people a month are attacked by crocodiles in Vila de Nhamayabwe, Mutarara distric,t in Tete.
The crocodile attacks have resulted in the deaths of victims or serious injuries, a situation which concerns the local municipal council.
“Even if it were only one person killed a month, it would be too much. But three killed a month means, on average, more than 30 deaths in a year,” the mayor has said.
Incidents occur mostly in the Gungunhana, Agrisa and Mutara-a-Velha neighborhoods, residential areas without piped water supply, with women and children making up the majority of victims.
“So our vision now is to find a quick response, an alternative system that can circumvent the trip to the Zambezi [river], so our community does not suffer these attacks,” said the mayor.
