The observation mission from the Community of Portuguese-Language Countries (CPLP) said on Monday in Maputo that it expects orderly local elections across Mozambique on Wednesday.
“We expect it to run in an orderly manner and with positive results for the Mozambican nation,” said the head of the mission, Cape Verde’s Amílcar Spencer Lopes.
Lopes also said expectations were good considering that it is the fifth time that Mozambicans have been called to the polls to vote in local elections.
The electoral observation mission from the CPLP is made up of 18 members and will be present in five municipalities – Maputo and Matola (south), Beira and Quelimane (centre) and Nampula (north).
On Wednesday, 53 Mozambican municipalities are due to hold elections to choose mayors and local council members.
