The Covid-19 coronavirus is spreading through the province of Niassa, with the diagnosis this Wednesday (June 3) of three new foci in Lago district. Also yesterday, another five new transmission chains were detected in Maputo city, three of them in children.
Between Tuesday (June 2) and Wednesday (June 3), health authorities tested 105 samples from Niassa province, 11 from Cabo Delgado, five from Nampula, 60 from Tete, eight from Sofala, one from Gaza, 57 from Maputo province and 77 from Maputo city.
“Of the new suspected cases, 315 came back negative, and nine were positive for Covid-19,” National Director of Public Health Dr. Rosa Marlene told press in Maputo. Mozambique now has a total of 316 cases of Covid-19, 290 of which are of supposedly local transmission and 26 imported, she added.
The nine newly diagnosed patients are all Mozambican nationals. Four are asymptomatic and five have mild to moderate symptoms.
“In Niassa province we have four cases, three in Lago district – a male, over the age of 15 years. In Mavago district, we have a male also over the age of 15,” Dr Marlene detailed, explaining that the patient from Mavago district is a contact of the first case diagnosed in the province on 29 May.
Dr. Rosa Marlene also revealed the identification of five new transmission chains in Maputo city. “One of these is a male under the age of 15 years old and four are female individuals – two are under the age of 15 and two over 15. The positive cases reported today (June 3) are in isolation at home,” Dr Marlene made public.
@Verdade has learned that there have been no new cases diagnosed in Nampula because no new samples from the province have arrived in Maputo. The five tested cases discussed were from the batch which included the positive tests announced on Tuesday, June 2.
