The Mozambican health authorities reported on Monday that in the previous 24 hours no new cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease were diagnosed anywhere in the country.
This was the second day this month with no new cases of Covid-19 – the first was 7 March.
According to a Monday press release from the Ministry of Health, since the start of the pandemic, 1,284,288 people have been tested in Mozambique for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 248 of them in the previous 24 hours. 225,179 (17.5 per cent) tested positive for the virus.
Over the same 24 hour period, no Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital, and one new case was admitted, in Maputo. The number of people under medical care in the Covid-19 treatment centres rose from 14 on Sunday to 15 on Monday. 12 of these patients (80 per cent) were in Maputo, two were in Tete and one was in Manica. Four of the patients were in intensive care and were receiving supplementary oxygen.
No deaths from Covid-19 were reported on Monday, and so the total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique remains 2,198.
The Ministry release reported that 17 people were declared fully recovered from Covid-19 (11 in Maputo province, four in Gaza and two in Inhambane). This brings the total number of recoveries to 222,892, which is slightly less than 99 per cent of all those ever diagnosed with Covid-19 in Mozambique.
The number of active Covid-19 cases fell from 102 on Sunday to 85 on Monday. The geographical breakdown of the active cases was as follows: Niassa, 20; Maputo city, 17; Zambezia, 12; Maputo province, 10; Sofala, seven; Tete, six; Cabo Delgado, five; Gaza, four; Manica, three; and Nampula, one. Inhambane was the only province with no Covid-19 active cases.
The Ministry also reported that, over the past 24 hours, a further 11,134 people were vaccinated against Covid-19. The number fully vaccinated now stands at 12,380,862 – which is 81.4 per cent of all citizens aged 18 and above.
The number of people who have received at least one dose of vaccine is 13.685,776, and 257,491 have received a booster dose.
