Mozambique: Covid-19 death toll rises to 535 – 294 hospitalisations and 18,031 active cases

The Mozambican Ministry of Health (MISAU) on Sunday reported 10 more deaths from Covid-19 and 814 new cases of infection with the new coronavirus. [Full text and charts in Portuguese HERE]

Nine of the 10 deaths – all Mozambican citizens, aged between 33 and 84 – were declared on Saturday and one on Sunday.

The numbers announced on Sunday bring the death toll in Mozambique to 535, with an accumulative total of 50,265 cases, of which 63% have recovered.

The capital, Maputo, and the surrounding province continue to register the largest number of newly diagnosed cases. Sunday’s bulletin shows Maputo city and Maputo province accounting for 45% of new cases.

In the previous 24 hours, the country had registered a total of 31 new hospital admissions and 34 discharges. Mozambique currently has 294 patients hospitalised in Covid-19 inpatient centres and other health facilities, 234 of them [79% ] in Maputo city.

Since March 2020, Mozambique had tested 383,085 suspected cases, 2,463 of them in the previous 24 hours.

The country now has 18,031 active Covid-19 cases.
