Mozambique has registered 54 more infections with the new coronavirus and raised the total number of cases to 3,045, remaining with 19 deaths, the Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday.
Of the 54 cases announced yesterday, 48 are of Mozambican nationality and six are foreigners: one individual of Zimbabwean nationality, one individual of British nationality, one individual of South Korean nationality and three individuals of Pakistani nationality. Of the 54 new cases reported yesterday, 50 are locally transmitted and four are imported. The ifour imported cases are of individuals of Mozambican nationality, according to the ministry’s data update note sent to the media.
The new cases, distributed throughout the provinces of Maputo (10), Niassa (01), Zambézia (03), Sofala (08) and Maputo city (32), are in home isolation, indicate the health authorities.
“At this moment the process of identification of their contacts is underway”, adds the note.
Of the cases already registered in Mozambique, 2,812 are of local transmission and 233 are imported, with 13 people interned and who “suffer from various chronic pathologies associated with Covid-19”.
The health authorities also announced that 44 more people were reported as recovered, bringing the total to 1,291 (42%).
Of the active cases in Mozambique, the city of Maputo, the country’s capital, has the highest number, with 733 infections, followed by the province of Maputo, with 313 cases, both in the south of the country.
The northern provinces of Mozambique, Nampula and Cabo Delgado, continue with 227 and 205 cases respectively, while the remaining seven provinces of the country register less than 140 infections.
The country currently has 1,733 active cases of COVID-19, distributed as follows:
Niassa Province – 14;
Cabo Delgado – 205;
Nampula – 227;
Zambezia – 7;
Tete – 9;
Manica – 33;
Sofala – 48;
Inhambane – 8;
Gaza – 136;
Maputo Province – 313 and
Maputo City – 733.
Mozambique has tested a total of 80,913 suspected cases and just over 1.8 million people have been screened since the first infection was announced on 22 March.
A total of 6,775 people are still in home quarantine of the 30,754 people who have been subjected to this type of isolation.
