Cotton fibre exports from Mozambique are expected to generate US$50 million (€42.3 million) in revenues for the country by August of this year, according to government sources cited by daily newspaper Notícias.
According to Notícias, Mozambican producers expect to export 31,000 tons of cotton fibre this year, out of a total of 80,000 tons of seed cotton, which will be processed.
In the 2016/2017 agricultural season, the production of seed cotton totalled 36,000 tons.
To reach the target for the current agricultural campaign, the Mozambican Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has urged producers to increase cotton cultivation.
Mozambican cotton producers are betting on the Asian market, which has seen an increase in demand in the third quarter of each year.
