The Central Office for Combating Corruption (GCCC) is investigating the diversion of 17.5 million meticais (EUR 255,000) from the Provincial Migration Services of the city of Maputo, Mozambican daily newspaper Notícias reported on Wednesday.
The GCCC, which is part of the Attorney General’s Office, is questioning suspects about their involvement in the case, and, according to Noticias, could file a final indictment in the next few days.
Among the suspects are current and former managers of the institution.
The money was part of an amount of 48.7 million meticais of revenues (710.3 thousand Euros) levied in fees by the service in March 2017, and was found to be missing when the National Immigration Service was preparing to send the revenue to the state treasury.
