The patient succumbed to the disease on June 18 in the city of Maputo, but the cause of death was only confirmed on Sunday, said the Minister of Health Armindo Tiago at the daily press conference on COVID-19 updates.
“He is a 38-year-old male, who was admitted to the Central Hospital of Maputo and was transferred to the isolation centre of Polana Canico,” said Tiago.
Among the 45 new cases, 41 of them are Mozambicans and four Malawians.
Thus the cumulative number of the confirmed cases increased from 688 to 733 in the country, from which 181 people have fully recovered from the disease, said Tiago.
At the moment, the country has nine COVID-19 patients hospitalised.
The health minister also declared the city of Pemba, the provincial capital of Cabo Delgado, as another geographical location with community transmission of COVID-19, after the city of Nampula.
