It is important that Mozambique oil and gas companies are set to step up their cooperation with Italian fuels giant Eni, President Sergio Mattarella said on a visit to Maputo Tuesday.
Italy is seeking to cut its reliance on Russian gas amid the Ukraine war and has already brought it down from 40% to around 25% of total gas imports with deals with Algeria, Egypt, and Libya among other African countries.
Eni is seeking a similar deal to up collaboration with Mozambique.
“Collaboration with Eni is important here: it is precious and I hope it can spread to other Italian firms,” Mattarella said at Maputo’s presidential palace with Mozambique counterpart Filipe Jacinto Nyusi.
