Mitsui willing to boost investment in Mozambique

Some Mozambican businesspeople have filed lawsuits against the state for the payment of money owed to them, the Economic Associations Confederation (CTA) said 2 August. The government recently promised to pay $30 mn that it owes to more than 300 mostly small and medium-sized enterprises. (Lusa 3 Aug)

Health spending was cut by $7 mn (MT 429 mn) in the first three months of 2018, compared to the budget approved by parliament. The main cuts were in transfers to provincial health directorates. (@Verdade 30 July)
Five key state companies owed MT 133 billion ($2.2 bn) at the end of 2016. Of this, MT 40 bn ($ 0.7 bn) was owed to suppliers and MT 92 bn ($ 1.5 bn) was owned to national and foreign banks. Of the money owned to banks, 30% was short term, and the rest medium and long term, probably relating to investments. The five companies are Empresas Publicas Aeroportos de Mocambique, Caminhos de Ferro de Mocambique, Electricidade de Mocambique, Linhas Aereas de Mocambique, Petroleos de Mocambique and Telecomunicacoes de Mocambique.
