The Ministry of Public Works, Housing, and Water Resources (MOPHRH) announced that consultants hired to develop the conceptual project, which will guide the intervention on National Road No. 1, will deliver the final report and corresponding tender documents next May.
Speaking on behalf of Minister Carlos Mesquita during the Government’s question session in the Assembly of the Republic, Minister of Industry and Commerce Silvino Moreno noted that the delivery of the final report will be preceded by a seminar for the construction industry aimed at disseminating contracts based on results and performance, scheduled for April 30.
In parallel with these events, the process of preparing the conceptual project is underway, which includes defining the road service levels, project standards, hydraulic project, pavement project, and road safety project. The proposal also includes construction material project, signage, economic evaluation, and environmental and social impact assessment.
“Like any other engineering project, it requires planning and stages to be followed due to its high level of complexity, and what we have just described includes these stages. With them, we can say that the rehabilitation process of EN1 has already begun, especially since the rehabilitation works on the Nicoadala-Namacurra section, which is part of EN1, are substantially completed,” he said.
He added that while the rehabilitation works on EN1 have not started yet, the Government could not passively observe the degrading situation that some sections of the road present.
It is in this sense that an emergency repair program for about 115 km of roads on the most critical sections has been launched, such as Rio Save-Casa Nova-Inchope; Inchope-Gorongosa; Gorongosa-Muera; Muera-Nhamaphaza; and Nhamaphaza-Caia.
