Nineteen days after its communication network was sabotaged by insurgents, it is finally possible to communicate with the town of Palma again, after mobile operator Vodacom this Sunday re-established voice communication and limited data service to and from the town.
‘Carta’ this Monday managed to make and receive voice calls from the district headquarters town, as well as receiving and sending text messages via Vodacom. Data communication is operational, though still deficient.
The other two mobile phone operators, Tmcel and Movitel, still provide no service, as has been the case since terrorists invaded the town on 24 March.
Despite the reestablishment of communications, many people are still unable to locate family members, not knowing whether they have lost their cell phones, have no charge, or have indeed lost their lives.
