The President of the Tax Authority (AT), Anibal Mbalango, has said that it is necessary to simplify the tax system in order to respond to the current challenges in the institution’s relationship with taxpayers and the general public. For this to become a reality, he argues, that collaborative thinking s urgently needed in the search for sustainable solutions to improve the process, involving all stakeholders, from the government structure, the business class, to the institution’s employees.
Aníbal Mbalango was speaking in meetings with taxpayers, local structures and employees of the Tax Authority, during a visit to Cabo Delgado.
In another development, Mbalango stressed the need to prioritize the resolution of concerns at the local level, as well as the definition of terms of reference for provincial and regional mobility of AT employees. He also highlighted the urgency of revitalizing regional IFPFTs to improve the technical and professional capacity of employees.
The visit by the president of the AT started in Montepuez district, where he held a courtesy meeting with the local administrator, Isaura Máquina, and requested the support and cooperation of the entity in improving the performance of the AT in that part of the country, a request that was promptly accepted, with Máquina ensuring total willingness to collaborate with the Tax Authority in achieving the proposed objectives.
While in Montepuez, Mbalango also visited Montepuez Ruby Mining (MRM) and the Tax Area Directorate, and held a meeting with local businesspeople.
During his visit to Montepuez Ruby Mining, one of the largest taxpayers in Cabo Delgado, the director learned about the investment that the company is making in mineral processing, an action expected to triple production and generate an impact on tax revenue.
During his visit to Cabo Delgado, Mbalango also visited the AT Provincial Delegation, the Tax Area Directorate and the Provincial Customs Services, where he provided clear guidelines on the institution’s objectives, particularly for revenue collection.
During a meeting in Montepuez city, taxpayers requested improved performance by the AT inspection teams, improvements to customs inspection procedures and a reduction in the delay in issuing Clearance Certificates.
In response to this request, President Mbalango said that his team would follow up on the points raised and also explained that the AT has a channel available (1266) through which taxpayers can interact with the institution and voice their concerns.
