The National Electoral Commission of Mozambique has just suspended the submission of candidacies for the October 10 municipal elections due to the lack of a law on the new election model for the mayors, presidents of local councils, reports O País. Although the process should start tomorrow, it has been suspended and postponed to a date yet to be announced and which depends on the approval of a new law.

The CNE says that only after the law is approved will the election process be rescheduled, adding that then it will be assessed if there are conditions for holding the elections on 10 October, O País reports.
The law that determines the new model for the election of the president of a municipality should have been approved at the special session of the Assembly of the Republic which has been postponed ‘sine die’, following the lack of understanding between the Government and Renamo on the disarmament and integration of Renamo’s men in the Defence and Security Forces / FDS.
