Renamo calls on its members to trust and maintain respect for the party’s bodies, while at the same time using formal channels to voice any demands related to the internal life of the organization.
The position was presented by the spokesperson for this political party, Marcial Macome, in statements to “Notícias”, speaking about the recent episodes of vandalism and closure of Renamo’s provincial delegations in various parts of the country by members and supporters in protest against the party’s leadership and position in the political sphere.
“Any situation that causes discomfort or disagreement should be resolved within the party’s bodies.
We need to understand that institutions work with bodies. If someone has a problem, they should present it so that the best way to resolve it can be found. We won’t get anywhere with radical positions, such as closing down delegations,” he said.
Macome also said that the stance of those involved in the actions to close the delegations is far from the principles held dear by the party and represents a setback in the progress made by Renamo since its creation.
“We must understand that we have differences, but we need to accept each other and be tolerant. Our difficulties and disagreements cannot lead to the closure of infrastructures. Whatever the demands, they must be borne in mind that the party will not grow if the institutions are closed. Closing delegations and headquarters will not do us any honour”, he said.
Renamo admitted that the actions behind the movements to close the party headquarters were carried out by members of the formation and groups of dissatisfied demobilised fighters.
On the same occasion, the spokesperson for this political organisation clarified that the party no longer has ex-guerrillas, but rather demobilised fighters, with their own body to manage their interests and concerns.
“Some of the people in these actions are members of Renamo and have been demobilized. We no longer have guerrillas, we have demobilized fighters. Anyone who identifies as a guerrilla means that they have not yet demobilized. They are represented in the Political Commission, through the Association of Fighters of the Struggle for Democracy (ACOLDE),” he explained.
When asked about the motivations of the perpetrators of these actions, Marcial Macome said that the party has not yet been formally notified of any demands, and therefore urges that these demands be channeled to the party bodies for a solution. “I can’t say what they want, because so far they have only closed the headquarters and have not presented a written public document with their demands. What is clear is that they wanted the National Council to be held, which was postponed due to force majeure, but which should be rescheduled at the appropriate time,” he said.
