This Monday, classes at Samora Moisés Machel Secondary and Pre-university School in Beira were set to resume in tents set up over the weekend, a measure forced upon the institution by its ongoing rehabilitation process.
District director for Education, Youth and Technology, Nacer de Sousa, told ‘Notícias’ that the tents were pitched on the school’s football field over the weekend.
“We have already mobilised tents with our partners and if they give us the number we request, it will be enough to cover all classes. Otherwise, some rehabilitated classrooms will have to be occupied,” he explained, adding that, to avoid delays, another group of students would occupy spaces where rehabilitation work was not taking place.
As for the missed lessons, Nacer de Sousa guaranteed that teachers would be able to make up for lost time.
According to the director of Samora Machel School, Fina Duarte, 5,011 students are enrolled for Grades 8 to 12 in the present academic year, not including those participating in evening courses via distance learning.
Regarding provisions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, Fina Duarte said that her institution was following Ministry of Education and Human Development protocols and teaching classes of no more than 25 students.
