The Civil Aviation Institute of Mozambique has informed Lusa that the registration of the aircraft that crashed Monday, causing the death of six people, did not expire, admitting that the company’s Internet page is outdated
“The Certificate of airworthiness of this aircraft is valid until June 11, 2017, as our documents attest. The site has not been updated on this information,” said João Abreu, chairman of IACM.
The aircraft, operated by ETA AIR Charter and based in the city of Beira, was chartered to the company Cornelder Mozambique to connect the cities of Beira (Mozambique) and Mutare (Zimbabwe), having crashed in the approach to Mutare, after colliding with the mountain range of Machipanda, killing six people on board, according to a statement from Cornelder Mozambique sent to Lusa.
According to documents that Lusa had access to today, the Certificate of Airworthiness of the aircraft, an Islander, with the Mozambican registry C9-AOV and that was registered on May 10, 1973, was validated on June 12, 2016, for a period, as provided by law, of one year.
“There is no irregularity. This company was able to make charter flights, “João Abreu explained, recalling that the Certificate of Airworthiness is only invalidated in the event of an aircraft malfunction, which did not happen.
The device, with an autonomy for three hours of flight, took off from Beira at 07:15 a.m., expected to arrive at Mutare at 08:25 a.m., according to the source of Cornelder Mozambique.
The bodies of the six victims have now been transferred to Mutare.
