The first export shipment of heavy sands from Chibuto could be made by August of this year, after the completion of the dock to be used in Chongoene district, Gaza province.
The timetable was announced by the project manager and executor of the works, for whom the project had returned to a satisfactory pace after a stoppage last December occasioned by disagreements with affected communities.
You Jian Pingt explained that the construction of the port in Chongoene was divided into three phases, the first of which would be completed by next August, enabling the export by sea of heavy sands to various destinations.
The news was presented this Tuesday to the First Secretary of the Frelimo Provincial Committee in Gaza, who visited the Chongoene construction site during a working visit to the district.
Daniel Matavel said he believed that Chongoene port would boost the development of the region and the country, through the creation of jobs and parallel ventures.
Radio Mozambique has learned that Chongoene port will export six to eight million tons of Chibuto heavy sands a year.
