Construction of a port at Chongoene, in Gaza province, designed to ensure the flow of mining production resulting from the exploitation of heavy sands in Chibuto, will begin soon.
The announcement was made by the deputy director of the Chinese company [Ding Sheng] exploiting the heavy sands at Chibuto, who explained that the first version of the port would be able to receive vessels carrying up to 5,000 tons of cargo.
With a view to the initiative continuing to progress smoothly, it is expected that the Mozambican government will in the next few days grant a license for the start of the project.
The source noted that the project has a medium to long-term anchor plan that foresees the building of a two-kilometre long jetty to facilitate the docking of deeper-draft ships capable of carrying larger volumes of ore.
