The village of Nhancutse, in the district of Chongoene, Gaza province, has become a focus of attention, as construction works on the local airport take shape. The first stone was laid by the President of the Republic in October 2018.
The investment is estimated to be worth approximately US$70 million, and is financed by the Government of China, in the form of a donation, in partnership with the Mozambican state.
Chongoene airport is a little over a year from its scheduled completion, but progress is now quite visible and has become a point of attraction for many people travelling on Regional Road 102, between Chongoene and Chibuto districts.
From next year, Nhancutse, or more specifically the village of Kwapeni, will orchestrate the landing and take-off of aircraft, activity which, it is believed, will generate income and jobs for the area’s residents and, perhaps, for the whole of Gaza province.
