China has offered Mozambique a donation of US$1.7 million (1.4 million euros) in medical and surgical equipment for maternal and neonatal reproductive health, the authorities announced Thursday.
The equipment was delivered through the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and is expected to benefit about 463,000 women and girls served by 32 health units in the central part of the country.
The delivery aims to support the population still suffering the consequences of cyclone Idai, two years ago, in the districts of Dondo, Búzi, Nhamatanda and Beira, in the provinces of Sofala and Manica.
The equipment includes laparotomy sets, anaesthesia equipment and nebulizers, among others.
Many public infrastructures were destroyed two years ago when cyclone Idai hit central Mozambique.
The 2018/2019 rainy season was one of the most severe in recent memory in the country: 714 people died, including 648 victims of two of the biggest cyclones (Idai and Kenneth) ever to hit Mozambique.
Thank you to the Government of China 🇨🇳
