The Exposição Feira venue in Chimoio, in Manica province, will host the first edition of the Roots and Tubers Festival this Saturday, a Provincial Executive Council initiative.
The event aims to showcase and promote crops such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, beets, cassava, and turmeric, and highlight their importance in nutrition and mitigating the effects of climate change.
Manuel Bacicolo, Provincial Director of Agriculture and Fisheries of Manica, reported that the festival will feature approximately 150 exhibitors from the province’s 12 districts.
In addition to the exhibition of roots and tubers, the event will include the sale of medicinal roots, fishery, and agricultural products, presented by various stakeholders in the value chain, with a focus on input providers, producers, vendors and consumers.
The Festival de Raízes e Tubérculos,will be held under the motto: “Valuing roots and tubers for nutrition and resilience to climate change towards sustainable socioeconomic development.”
Manica province records significant annual production of these crops, which represent an essential pillar for food security and sustainable rural development.
