About one thousand children victims of terrorism in Cabo Delgado had lunch with the First Lady of the Republic, in the city of Pemba, as part of Isaura Nyusi’s Christmas solidarity initiative.
The beneficiaries delivered a message of gratitude for the support they have received, while asking for better protection and an end to the armed violence which has driven them from their homes and separated them from their families.
“This Christmas is celebrated at a time when many children in our province have lost their relatives,” and some died “as a result of terrorism. With that, we ask for the elimination of these problems, because we want to play freely and study without fear to prepare for our future and that of Mozambique,” Maria Aida Titos read, in the message from the displaced children.
The First Lady of the Republic took note of all the children’s concerns, and asked for patience while solutions were sought out, while calling for hope for a better future.
“The condition of the displaced, to which we are exposed, will not last forever. It is a passing situation, because no evil can overcome good. This evil will pass. And when it passes, we must be prepared to continue to build our country, so that we do not fall into despair. The important thing is to take care of our health, of our children, to engage in productive activity and actively participate in the literacy, professional training and teaching and learning programmes of our children, so that tomorrow we can reap the fruits that we desire today,” Isaura Nyusi said.
However, until order and tranquillity are restored in the terror-stricken districts of Cabo Delgado, the First Lady appealed to Mozambicans, especially in that province, to maintain unity for the cause of displaced people, who need support from everyone.
“We urge the population of Cabo Delgado to continue to show solidarity and mobilise support for displaced families, especially for children” who were left with nothing as a result of the terrorist attacks, the First Lady asked, wishing all Mozambican families a happy festive season.
Isaura Nyusi offered toys and balls to the children who participated in the Solidarity Christmas lunch, an initiative of the First Lady’s Office under which she annually meets groups considered vulnerable.
