Seven days after being invested as the fifth President of the Republic of Mozambique, Daniel Francisco Chapo has still not appointed his closest working team.
These are the presidential advisors, the Minister in the Presidency for Civil Affairs, the Chief of the Military Household, the Director of the Office of the President of the Republic, the Secretaries and the Chief of State Protocol, figures responsible for advising the President of the Republic in the exercise of his functions, as Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence and Security Forces (FDS).
So far, only the press attaché has been appointed: Adilson Virgílio Adinane, who served as press advisor to the governor of Inhambane during Daniel Chapo’s term in office there.
In addition to not having yet appointed advisors and other key figures to his cabinet, the President of the Republic has not yet completed his government, and has yet to appoint the Minister of Education and Culture; the Minister Public Works, Housing and Water Resources; the Minister of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs; the Minister of Labour, Gender and Social Action; the Minister of Combatants; and the Minister of Youth and Sports.
To date, the head of government has appointed and sworn in the prime minister and 12 ministers.
It should be noted that the President of the Republic must also fill the vacancy in the management of the State Intelligence and Security Service (SISE), following the death of its director-general, Bernardo Lidimba, who lost his life in a traffic accident that occurred in Mapai, Gaza province on November 2 of last year.
