The Mozambican president, Daniel Chapo, yesterday advocated the establishment of a direct air link with Malawi, in order to make private sector business more flexible and develop both countries.
“We would like to have a direct air link from Mozambique to Malawi. We can connect directly from [the province of] Tete to Malawi (…) between our airlines,” the Mozambican head of state said on the sidelines of a meeting with his Malawian counterpart, Lazarus Chakwera, during the first day of his visit to that country.
For Daniel Chapo, this measure will make private sector business “more flexible”, “better developing” both countries.

“That is why we are here, very pleased to be able to increasingly strengthen our relations in the economic areas, but also in the areas of defence, security and migration,” he said.
According to the president, the visit to Malawi serves, above all, to “strengthen relations of friendship, brotherhood, solidarity and cooperation between the two peoples and countries”.
“[We] will continue to cooperate with the sister country Malawi for the economic development of both countries and the social well-being of both peoples,” he added.
Chapo also expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Malawi in the sectors of energy, transport, trade, agriculture, as well as tourism and in mineral resources.
