The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo yesterday visited the district of Angónia, in Tete province, where he led a popular rally and visited the Nguni king of Mozambique, Horácio Sebastião Marcos Dama, traditionally known as Inkosi Ya Makosi, Zitambira V, to thank him for supporting his candidacy for the presidency of the Republic of Mozambique.
“We came here to visit you because last year, when we were campaigning for the elections, we arrived here in Angónia and were well received by our Queen Jacinta Dama, who greeted us during the rally and assured us that here in Angónia Frelimo and its candidate Daniel Chapo would win. We did indeed win the elections and that is why we came here to say Zikomo Kwa-Mbiri,” the president said.
In addition to thanking the Nguni tribe, another of the president’s objectives was to congratulate the new Zitambira V, Horácio Sebastião Marcos Dama.
“Because we as a government always work with the Nguni tribe, we did everything we could to ensure that the Nguni tribe, on this side of Mozambique, would have festivals like those in Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe,” Daniela Chapo said.
He pointed out that the third edition of the Nguni festival is currently taking place, heading towards the fourth edition, when it is planned to invite countries in the region.
“That is why we came here together. There are some concerns that were presented to us, such as the Nguni tribe cultural centre, research, preservation and dissemination of the habits and customs of the Nguni tribe for future generations. As we provided support for holding the festivities, we will also provide support to resolve this and other concerns of the Ngunis expanding their tribe in Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe, respectively”.
Chapo expressed his condolences to Zitambira V on the loss of his predecessor, Queen Jacinta Marcos Dama Rindzi Costa, therefore, Zitambira IV.
