The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, has promulgated and ordered the publication of the law that changes the organization, composition and functioning of the National Defence and Security Council (CNDS).
A press release from the Presidency sent to AIM on Friday states that Chapo decided in exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Constitution, promulgating the law after having verified that it does not contradict the Basic Law.
Approved on Friday (16) by the Assembly of the Republic, the Mozambican parliament, by consensus of the four benches, the amendment aims to adapt the CNDS to the new ministerial configuration, eliminating references to abolished ministries and including new ones.
The amendment essentially reinforces the strategic areas of Transport and Logistics, which are relevant to the security of critical infrastructures; Communications and Digital Transformation, which reflects the growing importance of cybersecurity and digitalization; as well as Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries, which integrates food and environmental security.
The law also aims to include in the National Defence and Security Council the ministers of Transport and Logistics; of Communications and Digital Transformation; and of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries.
