Mozambican President Daniel Chapo on Monday stressed the country’s need for a transparent public administration.
Speaking at a ceremony in Maputo on Monday where he swore into office the new Deputy Attorney-General, Irene da Oração Afonso Micas e Uthui, Chapo called on all public prosecutors to centre their attentions on the fight against corruption because “this is a phenomenon that holds back the development of the country and undermines the trust of citizens in public institutions”.
The President recognised the challenges facing the judiciary, and stressed that preventing and fighting against corruption and other economic and financial crimes, are among the government’s main lines of action for its five year plan for the 2025-2029 period.
During the same ceremony, Chapo swore into office three assistant Attorneys-Generals: Mário Ernesto Sevene, Firmino Emílio and Eduardo Leovigildo André Barros Sumana.
Chapo appointed all three on the proposal of the regulatory body, the Higher Council of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
