Mozambique: Chapo calls for rapid implementation of joint vision for 2030

Mozambican President Daniel Chapo calls on African and European countries to accelerate the implementation of the Joint Vision for 2030 so that other initiatives adopted by the two continents may be achieved.
Adopted in February 2022 as a framework for cooperation between the European Union (AU) and the African Union (EU), the Joint Vision for 2030 is aimed at consolidating “a renewed partnership for solidarity, security, peace and sustainable and sustained economic development and prosperity for citizens of both continents.”
According to the President, who was speaking on Tuesday in Luanda, at the 2nd thematic session of the 7th African Union (AU)-European Union (EU) Summit, under the motto: “Promoting Peace and Prosperity through Effective Multilateralism”, the fight against migrant smuggling or human trafficking requires strong collaboration from all African and European statesmen.
The President mentioned the dialogue on migration, the Rabat, Khartoum and Niamey processes, as documents that urgently need to be implemented as they promote safe migration and mobility, as well as the return, readmission and reintegration of immigrants.
“This historic moment of celebrating 25 years of partnership between the two organizations has encouraged us to redouble our efforts for the effective implementation of the reinforced commitments in economic and social development, complemented by collective engagement in improving peace and security,” he said.
The AU-EU partnership seeks to align EU priorities with Africa’s Agenda 2063, focusing on sustainable investments in digital and transport infrastructure, health, education, and combating climate change.
Chapo praised the support provided by the EU Training Mission (EUTM) in combating terrorism in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, saying that, in addition to training, strengthened the capacity of the Mozambican Defence and Security Forces (FDS).
“We would like to share with this forum that our country remains committed to improving the lives of the population and combating terrorism. We want to take this opportunity to also thank the African Union, which has been working with us to combat this evil”, he said.
According to the President, Mozambique simultaneously plays the roles of origin, transit, and destination of migratory flows, while facing internal displacement, pointing to terrorist attacks in Cabo Delgado, climate change, economic factors, as well as regional integration in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
“The government’s efforts are based on the Government’s Five-Year Plan 2025-2029, which aims to accelerate inclusive and sustainable economic growth, focusing on economic diversification and poverty reduction, a fact that will drive sustainable development”, he said.
According to Chapo, discussing migration and mobility in Mozambique means looking at existing opportunities, which include technical cooperation; employment and investment; technical and vocational training programs, especially for young people and women; and sharing experiences and academic training at various levels.
“Therefore,” he continued, “the topic under our consideration, prosperity, migration and mobility, clearly fits within the joint efforts to strengthen our partnership, materializing concrete actions for the benefit of our people.”
