Mozambique: Government approves concession of the Port of Pemba
Screen grab: STV
João de Abreu is no longer Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Civil Aviation Institute of Mozambique (IACM). The dismissal order was signed by João Matlombe, Minister of Transport and Logistics.
‘O País has learned that Captain João de Abreu’s dismissal took place this Wednesday, the same day he gave an interview to STV, responding to the controversy surrounding the allegedly illegal fares charged by Mozambique Airlines (LAM) to its passengers.

In the interview, João de Abreu denied any involvement by the IACM in setting LAM ticket prices.
‘O País’ also learned that, on Tuesday, João de Abreu had submitted a request to be dismissed as IACM chair, citing health issues.
The request was responded to the following day – Wednesday – and the document bore João Matlombe’s signature.
However, a decision similar to the one made by the Minister of Transport and Logistics requires approval by the Council of Ministers, according to our sources. The Government meets regularly on Tuesdays, and De Abreu’s dismissal may be analysed in next week’s Cabinet session.
It should be recalled that in the interview with STV (below), the now-dismissed CEO confirmed that it had been his team that reported the illegality of LAM’s fares to the Ministry of Transport and Logistics and to the Competition Regulatory Authority (ARC).
