Mozambique: Promotion of opportunities for women remains top priority – Chapo
Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi yesterday advocated cooperation in the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) to strengthen the focus on exploiting the comparative advantage among member states.
“It is not only the language that unites us, but also the will and the need for economic self-affirmation, always taking into account the development of our countries. This is the scenario which advises the CPLP’s cooperation prospects to be better focused on exploiting comparative advantage among member states as a factor of development promotion,” he said.
The president of Mozambique was speaking yesterday during the opening session of the CPLP summit in which eight of the nine heads of state of the member countries participated, a circumstance which Filipe Nyusi considered a “sign of maturity” and evidence of “a common will to make it [CPLP] fit for the service of our peoples”.
The Mozambican head of state recalled that the first CPLP economic conference in Maputo was held in May, and came out with proposals that “could constitute a qualitative step towards the desired integration of the community”.
On the subject of mobility, which marked the speeches of several heads of state, Nyusi said he would present a more “developed” position on Wednesday.
He recalled that it is not possible to have a “strong, prosperous and secure” CPLP if each “one of its members is not secure, in peace and with the exercise of democratic state”.
In this regard, he welcomed the ongoing progress in Guinea-Bissau “toward political stability with dialogue” and hoped that Brazil would hold elections “with success and maximum brevity”.
“In Mozambique, the peace process follows its course and we are confident that the dialogue continues and can bring effective and lasting peace,” he said.
The heads of state of Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal and São Tomé and Príncipe are meeting on the island of Sal for the CPLP summit, which marks the beginning of the Cape Verde presidency of the organisation.
Timor-Leste is represented at the summit by its Minister of Foreign Affairs.
