Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB) S.A. officially launched its new Supplier Portal in Maputo this Wednesday.
Speaking at the launch of the platform, HCB chairman Tomás Matola said: “This renewed platform, with new elements, will transform the way we interact with suppliers and how we conduct the processes of acquiring goods and services at HCB.”
Matola revealed that the company spends around 2.2 billion meticais a year on goods and services, of which 60% is spent in the national market, a sum of approximately 1.32 billion meticais going to Mozambican companies.
According to Matola, the HCB Supplier Portal signals “our conviction and commitment to transparency, efficiency and fairness in our practices, in all our purchasing processes”.
“It is proof of our dedication to promoting strong and mutually beneficial relationships with our suppliers. But, above all, it reveals our commitment to boosting the economic development of Mozambique, through the national business community, providing an environment of equity and equality among everyone,” Matola stressed.
“We believe that the developments we are referring to create accessibility and facilities for the national business community, creating opportunities to participate in all tenders for the supply of goods and services to HCB, through a platform in which everyone has equal access to information,” Matola said.
Suppliers and potential suppliers of goods and services present at the event had the opportunity to ask how the portal works. It was explained that the entire transaction would take place within the portal, and that seriousness and rigour were key to its use.
The HCB chairman reaffirmed his conviction that the portal would boost the provision of services to hydroelectric power plants and the national business community.
“As we embark on this new chapter, we are aware of the responsibilities that come with it,” Matola said. “Therefore, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, ethics and compliance in all our interactions with our suppliers. This portal will be a vehicle for us to reinforce these principles and ensure that our purchasing practices are conducted with the utmost professionalism and fairness, as we recognize that our suppliers are crucial partners to our success and we are committed to creating an environment that allows them to thrive.”
Tomás Matola ended his speech by thanking those who collaborated in renewing the platform.
“Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the employees and technical teams who were involved and who worked tirelessly to complete the renewal of the supplier portal, as well as to hold this event. Your dedication and selfless dedication were fundamental in making this vision a reality.”
The Cahora Bassa hydroelectric plant says that the portal reinforces transparency, a company statement stressing that the new platform’s main objective is to ensure compliance with the company’s procurement policies and procedures, in addition to improving and streamlining the process of launching tenders for the supply of goods and services.
HCB is the largest electricity producer in Mozambique and one of the largest in Africa, with around US$500 million in annual revenue and more than US$200 million in net income. On average, the hydroelectric plant registers around 2.2 billion meticais in annual purchases of goods and services on the supplier portal, of which 60% are made in the national market.
