The Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric(HCB) announced yesterday the appointment of Roque Silva, former secretary general of Frelimo, the ruling party, as non-executive director of the company.
“The aforementioned appointment follows the termination of Manuel Tomé’s duties”, states the company in a note published on its Facebook page.
Manuel Tomé, an influential member of the Mozambique Liberation Front (who also served as Frelimo Secretary General), passed away in March this year..
Graduated in law, Roque Silva previously held the position of deputy minister of State Administration and Civil Service, before taking over the role of Secretary-General of the ruling party in Mozambique, October 2017.
Roque Silva resigned as secretary general of Frelimo on May 5th of this year, during the internal voting process to choose the party’s candidate for President of the Republic in the October 9th elections.
In the same session in which Roque Silva resigned from his position, Frelimo chose Daniel Chapo as its presidential candidate. Chapo also took on the role of interim general secretary of the party.
