Mozambique: CAF rejects Zimpeto – Lusa

The Mozambican Football Federation (FMF) will now have to indicate an alternative stadium from among those approved by the CAF, and wait for a new inspection of the Zimpeto stadium in October, with a view to hosting the Malawi match.

Zimpeto National Stadium in Maputo has been rejected as a pitch by the African Football Confederation (CAF), and the Mozambican national soccer team (Mambas) will have to use a soccer field outside the country in the next round of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.

Mozambique was due to host the Cameroon team on October 10, four days after playing at the opponent’s ground, but the poor condition of the Zimpeto pitch was the main reason for the CAF’s rejection, according to a statement quoted by state bodies on Wednesday.

The CAF recommends urgent work on the turf and has issued warnings concerning lack of sanitation in corridors, toilets, accesses and changing rooms, vandalised equipment (such as toilets, faucets, doors and windows), unprotected access to the parking area, inadequate lighting for night games and the absence of electronic turnstiles.
