Mozambique Cabo Delgado Governor meets State agents and employees in Ibo Island

The governor was accompanied by the General Commander of the PRM, Bernardino Rafael.

Governor of Cabo Delgado Province, Valige Tauabo, yesterday urged state officials and agents in the Ibo District not to be intimidated by the presence of terrorists on Quirimba Island, reads a note published on The Provincial Executive Council Facebook page.

The appeal was launched this Thursday, March 7, 2024, in a meeting with a group of employees who, the previous day [Wednesday), had demonstrated, demanding authorisation to be removed to the city of Pemba.

Regarding these demands, the governor began by explaining that the Defence and Security Forces were on the ground maintaining order and tranquillity for the entire population of the Quirimbas archipelago.

Regarding the withdrawal of employees, the governor said that it must take place in an orderly manner, so as to ensure continuity in the provision of services to users.

“We are not preventing you from leaving. We understand that you have needs, including for the supply of products that you can only purchase in Pemba or other neighbouring districts. Our request is that you organize yourselves in such a way that your departure is compensated for by the presence of other colleagues,” Tauabo said.

The governor of Cabo Delgado also visited Ibo’s neighbourhoods, where he spoke to residents and called for heightened surveillance and the reporting of the presence of any individuals threatening peace and security.

Faced with the movement of a group of terrorists, the General Commander of the PRM appealed to fishermen to only go to sea with due caution and with authorization from the Defence and Security Forces, in order to mitigate risks.
