A businessman was kidnapped in Beira city as he was leaving his Friday prayer, reports private broadcaster Rádio e Televisão Académica de Moçambique (RTVAM) .
The businessman was forced into his own car by three unidentified armed men, an eyewitness told Beira-based RTVAM yesterday .
The abduction was apparently witnessed by several bystanders .
On the scene where the kidnapping took place, the RTVAM team interviews an eyewitness. works as a security guard for a company nearby.
He says that the victim was approached as he was heading to his car. and that all three kidnappers were armed.
“They forced him into his own vehicle and, in the attempt to escape, he called and cried for help. He cried a lot and [then] we – the ones who were around, watching at close range – tried to do something,,” the witness says . “it was then that they [the kidnappers] fired a shot,” he says. The criminals then took off with their victim, using the businessman’s own vehicle to escape, adds the witness.
The victim is described as a local businessman who owns a shop that sells building materials.
